PrintsAmerica is founded upon the collection of Belverd and Marian Needles, longtime print connoisseurs and highly regarded professionals in the field of accounting. Their collection began nearly forty years ago upon the purchase of Thomas Hart Benton’s Ten Pound Hammer, with the ambition of developing expertise in a field far from the one in which they ply their trades. The collection now consists of numerous exemplary prints focusing on areas of American modernism, including the Ashcan School, the Regionalists, the Etching Revival, and the WPA Era. Highly renowned artists in the collection include John Sloan, James Abbott McNeil Whistler, Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood, and Stuart Davis. The collection has been featured in many exhibitions, recently including The Left Front: Radical Art in the “Red Decade”, 1929-1940 at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art and Ink, Paper, Politics at the DePaul Art Museum. PrintsAmerica is dedicated to improving the appreciation of printmaking in American audiences through our ongoing publications and exhibitions. It is our hope that this website will serve as an educational resource and an introduction to the world of printmaking.
